THE SAVOY CINEMA (...BINGO!)
Gran tells me this was the first (electric) cinema in Kent, possibly the UK.
She recalls with a grin, that as a child her and her sister used to go there
armed with fruit if they could get it....sometimes to throw at the live acts
that used to put on stage between films!
Here we see the cinema transformed into a bingo hall in about 1966. It's a
shame (crime?) that this and the adjacent buildings are now in such terrible
order, but I'm sure someone has noted the potential to turn them into just what
they state the town needs more of, flats!
