ABOUT THE "ARTIST"
Richard James Taylor, born in Folkestone in 1965...and still here!!
Son of two of the most renowned and busiest professional photographers in this
area during the 1950s & 1960s who continued that work into the mid 1990s.
Richard and Pam Taylor were
Professional Photographers. They earned that title having completed what
was then a 7 year apprenticeship (click their photos to the left to find out more)
and they excelled at their work.
As you can understand I grew up with photography and fully appreciate its
historical, social and artistic qualities. Its in
my blood.
In recent years I have come to accept that folk around might
be actually right and have come back to my love of Photography outside of the
years I spent as a Photo-Journalist within British Motorsport.
Returning to my roots I am devoted to the use of 20th century
techniques in the use of various and sometimes specialist films but with the use
of the best equipment in photographic history.
Following father’s untimely death in 2007 the family’s
negative archive of some 7000+ jobs that date back to 1958 has come into my
possession. I continue to catalogue and make this work available as well
as undertaking my own.
I've been fortunate to have been asked to help with the archives of two
other great photographers and having spent two years being exposed to
internationally important material has had a very positive effect on my work and
I can now say that it's all coming together rather well!
I've been very
fortunate to have had such a unique opportunity.
So above has worked very well, more so as it followed my decision to lean
towards portraiture but the overall aim is to return to the quality of true
professional photography and to show that it is very available to everybody and
doesn't have to be incredibly expensive.
Currently, there are very few that can show character in their
portraiture as I do....a wild claim? Try me!
