ABOUT THE "ARTIST"
Richard James Taylor, born in Folkestone in 1965...and still here!!
Son of two of the most renowned and busiest professional photographers in this
area during the 1950s & 1960s who continued that work into the mid 1990s.
Richard and Pam Taylor were Professionals who earned that title from a 7 year apprenticeship each during the
early 1950s.

As you can understand I grew up with photography and fully appreciate its
historical, social and artistic qualities. Its in my
blood.
In recent years I have come to accept
that folk around might be actually right and have come back to my love of
Photography outside of the years I spent as a Photo-Journalist within British
Motorsport.
Returning to my roots I am devoted
to the use of traditional techniques in the use of various and sometimes
specialist films but with the use of classic equipment.
It is my desire for this to be reflected in my works and that I keep
faith in terms of the family’s own style.
I am continuing to piece together
the things learned from Mum and Dad and continue in my endeavours to fill in the
gaps that remain in their unfortunate absence.
I hope that people still remember who they were and from that, who I
am....
Following father’s untimely death in
2007 the family’s negative archive of some 7000+ jobs that date back to 1958 has
come into my possession. I continue to catalogue and make this work
available as well as undertaking my own.
Finally,
I'm not aware of any other photographers using the film formats that I use, the
majority work being on medium format, even that of the long forgotten 127
film!
As well as the above I still love Polaroid as you can see in the gallery and I
am now taking my first tentative steps into the ultimate high quality medium:
Large Format.... Watch this space!
